For the archery scenes I plan to do in my film I need to film a location that will be suitable for long distance shooting(establishing shot) but also be safe for cast and crew members on set. Because I have all the gear myself I don't need to go to an outside source to gain any props that would be needed for filming. Because of this and I have decided to film in my garden as I will not need to transport any of the equipment to another location,it is close to the other locations I plan to film in this makes the production easier. the garden is certainly long enough but the problem now is trying to not make the location look like a student film. I always think that one of the main problems with student films is that they are filmed in tacky locations available to students. Which is why I wanted to be ambitious as possible when it came to location for my film. Because of this I'm going to be filming a lot of the archery scenes in close up with shallow depth of focus to keep the viewers eye looking on what is important.

Because of travel and the foreseen problem of getting all cast, crew and equipment to location I've decided to try limit the amount of heavy equipment I use for my production. One problem this causes is that I really wanted a tracking shot In my film that tracks in slowly of me laid in bed. The storyboards and scripts have been made that this shot is a kind of foundation shot that the film keeps cutting back too. Because I am unable to transport all the track to location I have decided to try create the same shot but with the slider. This alternative means I will have a shorter track( move in) than I would with the tracking dolly but this also still lets me have the same shot type I planned for.

After looking into how I want to film the paintball sequence I have decided that the camera op will need protective gear during production. Because of this I will need to buy another mask for the camera op as there is a possibility of getting hit.

Research into my production

Because of the way i would like to film my production i need to research film techniques that i have yet to use. And also to see if what i have in mind is even possible.

How to shoot a action sequence

Part of my production includes a paintball shoot out between myself and a friend. i am yet to film anything close to an action sequence so i need to research shaky-cam and health and safety when shooting.
My first idea because the paintball scenes are split into two, was to film the first couple of shots shaky and disruptive to show myself out of control of the situation.(only for a couple of shots as i hate shaky cam) But for the next couple of shots where i fight back in the scene to have the camera steady and smooth to show the gaining of control.
(one possible way i could do this is with the warp-stabilizer after effect, which i used in a earlier project but it did not work as well as i hoped :/ )

During this part of the production i also have to take special care when filming as paintball can be a dangerous sport if done with out the proper care taken. Because i have been playing for a while i know of the dangers and trust my friend not to actually shoot me......
Of course the correct protective gear will be worn and all equipment has been checked in date with UK maintenance laws (compressed air).
While filming this part of the production i will also take care in where the crew will be positioned for shooting, and make sure that they are always behind the person while filming.

its also worth noting that we will be filming on a uneven surface with large bushes and nettles, so i will inform the crew on wearing protective clothing.

this video also gives some good advice for compressing the space between two players during a paintball shoot. (in the video he is still very close to the person being shot out which is not safe for the crew, so i will have to find a better way to film these shots)
